Detailed User Guide
This guide explains how to use the Zodiac Wheel Calculator script. This tool allows you to generate an astrological chart displaying planetary positions, aspects, and house cusps for a specific date, time (in UTC), and geographic location.
How to Use
-
Enter Information into the designated input fields:
- Name: (Optional) Enter a name to personalize the chart (e.g., "Someone's Chart").
- Date: Select the desired date.
- Time (UTC): Enter the time in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). This is crucial for accuracy.
- Latitude: Enter the latitude of the location (e.g., 46.9427124).
- Longitude: Enter the longitude of the location (e.g., 7.4714078).
- Click the "Calculate" button.
-
The script will then perform the following actions:
- Generate a new URL in a new browser tab. This URL contains all the entered parameters, allowing you to easily share or bookmark the specific chart.
- Display the zodiac wheel, a detailed list of planetary positions, and the calculated aspects based on your input.
Features
-
Interactive Zodiac Wheel: A visual representation of the zodiac signs, houses, and planetary positions.
- Hover over zodiac signs, planets, or house numbers on the wheel to see their names appear in a tooltip.
- Click on zodiac signs, planets, or house numbers to open a DuckDuckGo search for more detailed information in a new browser tab.
-
Planetary Positions & Points: A comprehensive grid displaying the zodiac sign and house placement for each planet and key astrological points (e.g., Ascendant, Midheaven).
- Toggle between "Overview" (showing traditional planets) and "Detailed" (including all calculated celestial bodies) views.
- Click on the names or symbols in the grid to learn more about them via a DuckDuckGo search.
-
Aspects Grid: Shows the astrological aspects (e.g., Conjunction, Trine, Square) formed between planets.
- Click on any aspect in the grid to search for its meaning on DuckDuckGo.
- Customizable Calculation: Input specific dates, times (UTC), and geographic coordinates to generate a highly personalized astrological chart.
- Shareable Charts: When you click "Calculate" a unique URL is generated. This URL encapsulates all the chart parameters, making it easy to save or share the exact chart with others.
Key Inputs
- Name: An optional field to label the chart for easy identification.
- Date: The specific date for which the astrological chart is to be calculated.
- Time (UTC): The time for the chart calculation. It is essential that this time is provided in UTC.
- Latitude & Longitude: The geographical coordinates of the location. These are crucial for accurately calculating the Ascendant (rising sign) and House cusps. Note that planetary longitudes are geocentric and are not altered by the location input.
Output/Display
-
Zodiac Wheel: A circular diagram that visually presents:
- The 12 zodiac signs in their traditional order.
- The 12 astrological houses, with house cusps clearly marked. Angular houses (1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th) are often highlighted for emphasis.
- Symbols representing the planets and other calculated points positioned at their respective degrees within the zodiac.
- Lines within the inner circle of the wheel indicating the aspects (angular relationships) between planets.
- A distinct "ASC" (Ascendant) marker indicating the rising sign.
- Planetary Positions Grid: A table listing planets and other significant points, along with their zodiac sign and the house they occupy in the chart.
- Aspects Grid: A table detailing the detected aspects between planets, showing the symbols of the planets involved, the symbol for the aspect type, and the orb (the degree of exactness of the aspect).
- Calculation Info: Displays the specific date and time (UTC) for which the chart is currently being shown.
Interactivity
- Hovering: Moving your mouse cursor over elements on the zodiac wheel (such as planets, signs, or house numbers) or items in the aspects list will often highlight them or display informative tooltips.
- Clicking: Clicking on planets, signs, house numbers on the wheel, or various items in the planetary and aspects grids will typically open a new browser tab with a DuckDuckGo search result, providing more information about that specific astrological element.
- View Toggle: Easily switch between "Overview" and "Detailed" views for the planetary positions and aspects. The "Overview" mode generally focuses on traditional planets, while the "Detailed" mode includes a broader range of celestial bodies and points.
Sharing a Chart
When you input your data and click the "Calculate" button, the script will open the generated chart in a new browser tab. The URL in this new tab is unique to the parameters you entered (name, date, time, latitude, longitude, and view mode). You can copy this URL to save the chart for future reference or share it with others.
Important Notes:
- Planetary positions are geocentric ecliptic longitudes, calculated using the precise Swiss Ephemeris.
- Time input must be in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) for accurate calculations.
- Location input (latitude and longitude) is primarily used for calculating the Ascendant and Houses. It does not alter the geocentric planetary longitudes.
